STARKVILLE, Miss. — The award-winning Starkville Derby is set to return on April 25th, bringing an even bigger celebration of food, art, entertainment, and of course dachshunds from around the country. Festival grounds will open at 9:30 am with racing beginning at 11:30 am.
More than 200 food and art vendors will be featured throughout the festival, offering a wide range of local eats, handmade goods, and creative displays. The vendor lineup reflects the vibrant culture and talent of the region, giving guests both two-legged and four-legged plenty to explore and enjoy.
The main event is the signature wiener dog races, the world’s largest, with a record 315 dachshunds set to compete. This year’s races feature 26 states represented and 28,000 total miles trekked to Starkville. Races are also streamed in HD with a multi-camera setup on YouTube.
In addition to the racing, attendees can enjoy a live performance by the Sam Grisman Project, whose unique mix of bluegrass and Americana will provide a lively soundtrack to the celebration.
Organizers invite the community, students, dachshund fans, and event cat people to come out and experience everything the Starkville Derby has to offer, from local flavors and creative vendors to entertainment and family-friendly fun. Proceeds from the event benefit Oktibbeha County Humane Society, which the Derby has raised over 150,000 dollars for since starting in 2023. This year’s edition is presented by Mama Justice Law Firm.
